For the past two years, I’ve been engaging in a sport I like to call “hedge spotting.” It works like this: I spot a tree or hedge that’s trimmed into an unusual shape, and I ask people what they think it looks like. It’s a sort of green Rorschach test. For our October issue, I drew some of my favorite local hedges and invited readers to play along. The responses on Facebook and Instagram (@hedgespotting and #hedgespotting) were fantastic. Here are my favorites. The very best three, marked with an asterisk, won a signed print by me.
