We’re producing a brand-new Pop-Up Magazine show — a music and sound collaboration with Noise Pop and California Sunday
Maybe a year ago, I was talking on the phone with Jordan Kurland, the music-festival impresario and manager who runs the Bay Area institution Noise Pop. He said we should do something together, Noise Pop and our live series, Pop-Up Magazine.
“Noise Pop-Up Magazine,” he joked. Obviously it was meant to be.
Music had been on our minds, too. Back when Pop-Up Magazine was a hobby for all of us, before we expanded it nationally and launched The California Sunday Magazine, we collaborated on a live show with Beck and McSweeney’s. We really enjoyed inviting a bunch of bands and solo artists into our mix of writers, filmmakers, radio producers, and photographers — mashing live music and stories together. We wanted to do it again.
So, Friday, September 30, California Sunday, Pop-Up Magazine, and Noise Pop are teaming up to produce a special sound-and-music-themed show at the Greek Theatre in Berkeley. We’re also hard at work on a sound-and-music-themed issue of California Sunday, which will be out in print and online that same weekend.
Here’s Lauren Smith and Derek Fagerstrom from Pop-Up Magazine and Deirdre Foley-Mendelssohn from California Sunday:
We like to bring you all kinds of different stories, all kinds of different ways. So we’re excited to try something new. Tickets for the September show just went on sale at goldenstaterecord.com. Hope you can come!
And thanks for reading.
