Oakland teenagers on how to talk to their parents, the police, and their grandmas.
At McClymonds High School in West Oakland, the students in Ms. K’s Culture Keepers class — mostly African American, mostly seniors — study local history, run workshops, mentor younger students, and try to set the standard for what it means to be a McClymonds Warrior. We asked them how they felt about the authority figures in their lives, from police officers to teachers and family members. This is what they said.
